Head Vet Surgeon/Clinical Director (Full Time)

Location: The Finchley Vet, High Road, North Finchley

Salary: upto £80-100k per annum + approx. 5-10% profit share – DoE

Looking for a corporate gig? This isn’t it.

We’re an independent, fast-growing 3-vet small animal practice (soon to be two sites), led by me, Oli—a practicing vet, not a suit. Joining us means shaping the future of our practice as we expand.

Our clients are unusually great (that’s because we fire the nasty ones!!) and have learnt that we provide an exceptional level of care, understanding and communication to really, truly help them and their pets.

BUT:

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again…we are not the perfect vet practice!!

That might be a funny thing to put in a job advert – but I want you to know that we are honest about our flaws. In fact, we are honest about everything. That’s how we create a culture and working environment where people feel supported and heard. Where clients feel listened to and that their concerns are addressed in a competent and compassionate way. Our mission is simple: provide the best customer service of any UK vet practice, and we know that if we look after our team, they look after our clients.

Do we get it right all of the time?…No!

Do we aspire to be better every day?… Absolutely Yes!

About the Role:
We’re searching for a Head Vet/Clinical Director to inspire and lead a team of four vets.

Job Requirements:

  • Exceptional level of General Practice Clinical Veterinary Medicine – experience with CT would be desirable.

  • Maintaining clinical standards across all teams – through training and maintaining skills and knowledge

  • Excellent and demonstrable leadership skills – across the entire team

  • Ability to drive and maintain client loyalty and satisfaction

  • Work collaboratively with the Nurse Manager and Practice Manager to drive the team forward

  • Safeguard the welfare of the team

  • Be an ambassador for The Finchley Vet in the vet industry and wider community

Proposed Schedule:

Mon, Tues, Wed, Fri: 8:30–19:30
Saturday (1:3): 9:00–13:30

We pay for all of the hours of your shift – including your lunch breaks – but that doesn’t mean we expect you to work over lunch – in fact, we are militant about protecting lunch breaks for all of our team.

Our recently revamped main practice includes a spacious kitchen, team room, and a shower for those who cycle, gym, or need to freshen up. Clinically, we have x-ray, ultrasound a dedicated theatre, separate cat and dog wards, peripatetic specialists (Ortho and ST surgery, ophtho, endoscopy, cardiology), a bronchoscope, dedicated dental suite (with dental xrays) – and…clients who will usually allow us to use them!!

About you:

You will have a passion for leadership and mentorship, wanting to get the best out of your team.

You will be an experienced small animal vet (likely 5-8 years of small animal experience at least), although a further clinical qualification (e.g. a Cert) is an advantage, it is not a requirement.

Perks & Benefits:

  • 5.6weeks + a day off on your birthday

  • Private medical insurance (up to £50/month).

  • Fitness allowance (up to £20/month for memberships or £150/year for gear).

  • Enhanced parental leave.

  • In-house training and external lunch-and-learns.

  • 2 CPD days/year with £1,500 allowance (more if it benefits our service provision).

  • Team bonus scheme—not individual bonuses – because we work together, then we succeed together.

  • Staff discounts, including free consultations for all our team.

Sound good? Email me at oli@thefinchleyvet.co.uk with questions or your CV.

Let’s chat, and I’ll happily show you around.
