How to Collect a Urine Sample from your Cat

Step 1: Empty and Clean the Litter Tray

Thoroughly empty and wash your cat’s litter tray.
Rinse well and ensure it is completely dry before use.

Step 2: Add the KatKor Litter

Pour the KatKor non-absorbent litter into your cats empty litter tray.
Do not mix it with your cat’s usual litter.

Step 3: Allow Your Cat to Use the Tray

Place the tray in its usual location and allow your cat to use it as normal.
The KatKor litter does not absorb urine, allowing it to collect at the bottom of the tray.

Step 4: Collect the Urine Sample

Once your cat has urinated, use the pipette provided with the KatKor kit to draw up the urine.
Transfer the urine into the sterile urine sample pot provided and securely fasten the lid.

Step 5: Bring the Sample to the Practice

Bring the sample to the practice as soon as possible.
If you cannot bring it in immediately, store it in the refrigerator until you can. Urine left at room temperature for several hours can allow bacteria to grow, which may affect the test results.

Step 6: Aim for a Fresh Sample

Ideally, collect a fresh sample on the day of your appointment.
If possible, the first urine sample of the day is preferred, as it provides the most useful information for testing.
